Welcome back on day three.

Yesterday we explored the 2Learn site and checked out a variety of interactive resources that could be used in the classroom. We wrote about these interactives on our blogs and then learned how to create a link from our blogs to the interactives.

We had a discussion about multitasking and read an article about multitasking, the brain and driving.
Finally we looked at Wallwisher . We set up our own Wallwisher accounts and then created a new wall.

Today

A. Getting Started

1. Add a link to your wall on your blog if you haven't already done this.

2. Check out everyone's wall and leave a message. You can access their walls by going to their blogs.

3. Check out more resources by going to Stumbleupon, 2Learn, check some of the sites listed on Cool Sites to Check Out or do a search for resources on a topic of your choice.
In your blog write about one of the resources that you found today.

B. New Media Literacies

Collective Intelligence: the ability to pool knowledge and compare notes with others toward a common goal. This ability is key to open source projects. Being able to pool knowledge with others can allow us to solve challenges far more complex than the individual mind can process.

“Collective intelligence”... In such a world, everyone knows something, nobody knows everything, and what any one person knows can be tapped by the group as a whole.

Negotiation -- the ability to travel across diverse communities, discerning and respecting multiple perspectives, and grasping and following alternative norms. We now need to know how to live in multiple communities - from the hyperlocal to the global and from those composed of people like us to those consisting of people very different from us.

The easy flow of information within the new media environment brings together groups who otherwise might have lived segregated lives. Culture flows easily from one community to another. People online encounter conflicting values and assumptions, come to grips with competing claims about the meanings of shared artifacts and experiences. Everything about this process ensures that we will be provoked by cultural difference. Little about this process ensures that we will develop an understanding of the contexts within which these different cultural communities operate. When white suburban youth consume hip hop orWestern youth con- sume Japanese manga, new kinds of cultural understanding can emerge.Yet, just as often, the new experiences are read through existing prejudices and assumptions. Culture travels easily, but the individuals who initially produced and consumed such culture are not always welcome everywhere it circulates.

It becomes increasingly critical to help students acquire skills in understanding multiple perspectives, respecting and even embracing diversity of views, understanding a variety of social norms, and negotiating between conflicting opinions.

Please leave a comment on different types of activities that you can use that will help develop collective intelligence and/or negotiation literacy by clicking on the comment button at the top of the page.

C. Prezi

Check out my Prezi

Task

As a group we are going to create a Prezi about Dominica called Dominca- Paradise on Earth. We will use the collective intelligence of the group to create this presentation. You can edit this Prezi by clicking on this link

http://prezi.com/-2jeayys5bi1/edit/?auth_key=2bn44go&follow=lvwkualt1i5z

First you must determine what you will put into the presentation and then determine who will be responsible for doing this.
Next each person much create what ever artifact they will be responsible for. You may want to create it outside of Prezi and copy and paste it when you have it completed so that we don't have problems with the editing. You will have to work this out.
Final formatting and editing will have to be completed.

Embed the Prezi in your blog. One person can also embed it in the wiki.
We will do this as a group.

D. Sound Cloud

SoundCloud is an online audio distribution platform which allows collaboration, promotion and distribution of audio recordings. You can share your music, and have multiple contributors to a sound track using this program.

We have created a SoundCloud account called DominicaIT 2012 for this course. We are hoping that four of the sections will contribute to this site.
Using an a free downloaded audio program called Audacity, we will make a recording of a song of your choice. Then we will upload it to our account.
